The Turning Tools
The turning tools are a key component for taking wood off of your bat. These are the main tools you will find. There are all kinds of different tools for many different situations.
Rouging Gouge................................................................The roughing gouge is helpful for take wood of in a short amount of time. This is what you start with to get the wood blank evenly round and the rough shape of your bat. The bigger the width of the gouge, the more it will take off.
Spindle Gouge.......................................................................................................The spindle gouge is helpful foe tight spaces and doesn't take of as much wood a the roughing gouge. You will normally not use this on a bat because the size of the bat would take to long.
Skew Chisel...........................................................................................................The skew chisel is great for evening the bat. It takes off the divots the roughing gouge left behind. It also is useful for rounding edges. This is a major factor in making a bat because it makes the even and smooth.
Parting Tool...........................................................................................................The parting tool is helpful to dive into the ends of your bat to round the ends out. You only need this tool and the end of turning.
Round Scraper......................................................................................................The round scraper is useful to smooth out the end of the handle an the knob of the bat because of it's small size it can get into tight spaces without wrecking your bat.
